630th MP Company Organization
Discipline, Law and Order Platoon (DLO – Carried out MP desk , patrol, and checkpoint operations on Cam Ranh Bay – MP Desk Sergeant and clerk, and approximately ten MP jeep patrols 24/7)
Convoy Escort Platoon (Utilizing V-100s and gun jeeps, this platoon provided security and escort for convoys operating in Military Region II) Detachment Platoon – Operated MP stations and conducted MP patrol operations at: Phan Thiet Phan Rang DaLat Ba Loc – Goodview Pass (Ant Hill) Separate MP Platoon (formed in late January 1971 from MPs assigned to the DLO Platoon for CRB and deployed to Hue/Phu Bai on Operation Lam Son 719 and placed back into the DLO Platoon in May 1971.) BN HQ Support Section (Platoon size) composed of 630th personnel supporting the mess hall, motor pool, 97th MP BN HQ, MPI, SIR, PSS, etc. The 630th was responsible for the 97th MP BN mess and maintenance. 630th Company HQ (CQ, 1SG, Orderly Room personnel, Arms Room personnel, etc.) The 630th was reportedly the largest MP Company in RVN at the time and was spread over hundreds of miles of South Vietnam
September 1970 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Mp Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. First and second MP Strike Force operations conducted in Vietnam. These were conducted at Phan Thiet and LZ Betty.
October 1970 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. Mortars and rockets hit Cam Ranh Bay Began highway traffic enforcement operations by air and MP jeep patrols on QL-1. Closed off CRB for MPC Currency Day Conversion Typhoon Louise hit CRB, significant damage from high winds and rain
November 1970 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions continue for Military Region II. Convoy Escort Platoon continues to encounter the enemy. Firefights, B-40 rocket attacks, etc. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue.
December 1970 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations continues at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continues. CRB hit with rockets During December, men from the 630th began building a playground in their spare time for children at a local orphanage. After Santa arrived in a V-100 on December 23rd, with his head and arms sticking high out of the cupola of a V-100 yelling “Merry Christmas”, the MPS celebrated their Christmas with the children, singing songs and giving them presents, and candy and nuts they had received from the states. After that, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held opening the new covered playground.
January 1971 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Mp Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, Dalat, and Goodview Pass continue. Around midnight on New Years Eve the Company received word that a CID man had been shot and killed (murdered). Another GI was killed, two others were wounded and an additional two wounded escaped. The Company was mstered and ran a cordon and search operation throughout the early morning in the nearby village of Su Chin. In early January, unit was placed on alert for a special Separate MP Platoon operation. Late in the month, the 630th was alerted to a new mission. Most of the MPs from the DLO Platoon ( a new Separate MP Platoon was created) were deployed North to the Hue/Phu Bai AO, to carry out operations in Lam Son 719. The remaining DLO MPs along with a number of added replacements then continued the DLO mission for CRB.
February 1971 Separate MP Platoon continues operations in support of Operation Lam Son 719. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. The convoy escort platoon continues to have enemy encounters. On one escort mission from CRB to Ban Me Thout, the convoy was attacked in a mountain pass with RPGs., Rockets, and machine-gun fire. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. CRB continues to receive rocket attacks and sapper penetrations. Company personnel continued work at the orphanage playground and took the children candy, etc.
March 1971 Separate MP Platoon continues operations in support of Operation Lam Son 719. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Sniper attacks on MP patrols. Conducted sweep opearations. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Enemy activity continues during convoy escorts. During one convoy escort movement to Ban Me Thout, one MP and at least seven truck drivers were wounded, and one Trans command driver was KIA. Two helicopter gunners were also wounded. The convoy was ambushed in Duc My Pass. Command detonated mines blew up vehicles and created craters in the road, separating the lead escort MPs from the rest of the convoy. Intense enemy crossfire and firefight followed. Three fuel tankers were left burning in the pass along with other trucks. The convoy could not continue and after reversing course and fighting their way out of the ambush returned to CRB. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. CRB continues to receive rocket attacks and sniper fire. Took finished metal slide to complete orphanage playground. Dedication ceremony for playground held at the orphanage.
April 1971 Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. The convoy that had been ambushed on its way to Ban Me Thout at the end of March was run again two days later and got thru this time. Mounted .50 cal machin-guns on V-100s for experimental purposes Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. Separate MP Platoon returns to CRB from Hue/Phu Bai and Operation Lam Son 719.
May 1971 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Separate MP Platoon reincorporated back into the DLO Platoon fro CRB. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. MPs continuing to draw enemy fire during convoy escorts. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue. MPs kill sapper coming through the wire at Myca Checkpoint into CRB.
June 1971 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Discipline, Law & Order Missions for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Boodview Pass continue.
July 1971 Discipline, Law & Order Mission for Cam Ranh Bay continues. Convoy Escort Missions for Military Region II continue. Discipline, Law & Order Mission for MP Detachment Locations at Phan Thiet, Phan Rang, DaLat, and Goodview Pass continue.
